Id like the 411 on cabinets...?
Just looking for quality cabinets. Id like the white or maple or natural looking ones, Please tell me where to go. I like solid wood, however Ive seen all cabinets are made out of plywood or other materials I dont even know what they are. I like the Ikea ones, however Id like to know where to look.
i live in south Florida, what are good quality cabinets???
Basic cabinets are made with a particle board carcass which is covered with laminate or veneer. Depending on the style, they may have a solid wood face frame or be frameless and have the doors completely cover the edges of the box. These are the type you will find at Ikea.
Better cabinets have plywood for the carcass, and again have a solid wood face frame. These are the type where some of the frame shows around the doors, and usually the doors are raised or recessed panel. They are available in a wide variety of standard sizes, with filler strips available to fit nonstandard spaces. These are an upgrade from the particle board cabinets, so add 5-10% more to the price. Either of these types are available from a lot of places, such as Home Depot, kitchen and bath stores, etc.
Custom built cabinets are the most expensive option. They are made specifically to fit your kitchen by a local cabinet shop, and can cost as much as twice as much as stock cabinets.
Look in your yellow pages to find a contractor who can answer your questions. Most will give free estimates as well. You can also bring a sketch of your kitchen to Hope Depot or Lowe's, and they will put a package together for you. Hope this helps.
