Many golf players have played golf for many years and have never had the pleasure of playing in a golf tourney. As popular as they are becoming, World Golf Tournaments are being played more and more each year. As a way to get and keep young people interested in the game of golf, the golf association has created the junior golf tournaments. Because of his age and style, Tiger Woods is responsible a lot for the interest that young people are exhibiting in golf and learning more about the game.

There are many types of major golf tournaments throughout the United States. Although some may be costly to certain individuals, the Professional Golf Association (PGA) sponsors many tournaments for anyone interested. They are publicized well in advance, giving people ample notice to prepare and register. The PGA, known for giving the very best in prizes, has four major golf competitions. They are played every year with different golf courses being chosen each year to add to the competition and championship's fun.

Some of the major events are the Masters, the U.S. Open, British Open, President's Cup and the Ryder Cup. Augusta, Georgia is the site for the Masters, which takes place every fourth years. This event is a highly regarded golf even that was started by Bobby Jones. The Ryder Cup is a major golf tournament that takes place every other year, as does the President's Cup. What makes the Ryder Cup a great event is that golfing teams from the United States and Europe are the competitors.

Although this is a known fact already, competing in golf is not just for men anymore. This is a fact made very evident by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) with their sponsored tournaments. The important golf tournaments such as Ladies European Tour, Ladies Senior Tour and the Futures Tour have been around a few years and are gaining more popularity each year. Young girls just starting learning the game of golf have the opportunity to practice their game with the hopes of getting into one of these great events.

One goal of the LPGA in recent years has been to make them as well known as the men's tournament. One way they are trying to accomplish this is in making their first place prize such an award that it will be not only phenomenal, but widely publicized and acknowledged worldwide.

Many companies as well as individual have fundraisers by sponsoring a golf tournament or using the tourney as a way to bring in money for charities. Whether you are interested in participating in a golf tournament for cash, prizes or just fun, there are many ways you can find their location. Many golf tournaments are in your local newspapers. The internet is another place where you may be able to find any tournaments listed in large or small towns. Check early so you have time to register in these great competitions.
