Some Facts about Football Video Highlights

Football, or soccer for any Americans out there, has been around for well over two thousand years in some form or other. Modern football as we know it, however, is often accredited to the British, who also hold claim to the oldest football league. Rather straight to the point, it is known as The Football League, and was founded in 1888. The Football League served as the top level league in England until 1992, at which time the top 22 teams in the league split away and formed the well known Premier League. There are now several other leagues, including the Italian Serie A and the German Bundesliga, and football has grown to become one of the most popular sports in the world – with some of the most dedicated fans.

Football isn't just about the match and who wins it, though. Granted, our team winning is the most important aspect to any football fan, but another important factor is how the match is won. Who scores, when they do so, the tactics used that lead up to the goal and finally seeing the ball hit the back of the net like meteor. There's nothing quite like seeing your team outwit their opponents and score an unexpected or technically difficult goal, and any decent TV editor will have the wits to show these football highlights several times before moving on.

Those of you who were around before the days of the Internet will probably have in your possession several football videos (VHS tapes) filled with the best parts of a season or cup, as that used to be the only way to watch the football highlights again at your own leisure. Luckily the internet has now made it possible to watch all the latest football highlights, as well as old football videos, whenever you so desire.

This also opens up the possibility to watch highlights from leagues that you may not otherwise watch, whether it is because you are not a fan of any particular team in that league or because you simply can't spare the time to watch all of them. The Internet is fantastic in that you can find all the best bits of every single match played, whether it be in the English Premier League or Spanish la Liga or any other league,  you will be able to find both old and new football videos of all the highlights whenever you so wish.

Initially, most football websites would be dedicated to a specific team or league and would only provide videos and highlights from their particular football interest. For anyone who enjoys football not only for the sake of supporting a team, but for the sheer beauty of the game, that would mean that you had to browse several different sites to get all of your updates. Luckily that is not the case anymore, thanks to dedicated football websites such as FootballReaction.com where you can watch all the latest football highlights and football video clips whenever you want, without spending a single dime.

2008 Nba-olympics Basketball!

Congratulations to those players seleted for the United States Men's Olympic Basketball Team from Coach Jamaal of Boise's Jamaal Al-Din's Hoops 227- the everything basketball website!!! This year the Olympic Summer Games are being held in Beijing, China...the home of "chow Mein," lo Mein, ans Coach J's favorite- szchezwaun beef!!! The USA Basketball Executive Committee is responsible for the selection process and let's just say it's great to select from the NBA who plays host to the most extraordinary basketball talent in the world!!!

Mike Krzyzewski of the storied Duke University NCAA basketball program in Durham, North Carolina (ACC), is the Head Basketball Coach of the United States Olympic Basketball Senior Team. Nate McMillan, Mike D'Antoni and Jim Boeheim of the Portland Trailblazers, New York Knicks and Syracuse Univerity, respectively, are USA the Olympic Basketball Assistant Coaches for the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing, China.

Team members include these National Basketball Association stars!

Carmelo Anthony- Denver Nuggets; the explosive Carmelo Anthony is a versatile NBA talent from Baltimore, Maryland and Syracuse University. With an NCAA basketball championship he's now paired up with Allen Iverson ("The Answer") in Denver with hope of bringing a title to the Mile High City!
Chris Bosh- Toronto Raptors; Chris Bosh is a phenomenal leaper with unparalleled basketball skills in the paint. Chris Bosh's athleticism makes for exciting NBA dunks and "rim shakers!" NBA basketball at its finest and will be fireworks to see him paired up, on the basketball hardwood, with the likes of Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers) and LeBron ("King") James (Cleveland Cavaliers)!
Michael Redd- Milwaukee Bucks; Michael Redd's terrific long range game is TOPPS in the NBA and during Olympic play it will be enteresting to see him play bombs away against international basketball teams. Michael Redd played collegiately at Ohio State University.
Deron Williams- Utah Jazz; Deron Williams has both a strong basketball inside game and outside jumper. Slashes his way through opponents with penetration similar to a vibrant "Rookie" basketball version of Gary Payton (The Glove- from Oregon State University). Deron Williams played collegiately at the University of Illinois (Big 10/NCAA)
Chris Paul- New Orleans Hornets; Chris Paul had arguably the best season of all National Basketball Association (NBA) players and and some basketball fans, writers and critics, feel as though he should have won the NBA's MVP award. Chris Paul is a versatile Point Guard with a knack for penetrating the lane and creating havok for defenders, as big men in the middle have to converge, leaving wide open jump shots for Chris Paul's (CP's) teammates in New Orleans. The New Orleans Hornets are having an exciting time with NBA basketball and Olympic basketball fans will be watching one of the best point guards in the modern NBA! Chris Paul played for the Wake Forrest Demon Deacons of the NCAA's Atlantic Coast Conference (notable ACC basketball programs: Duke University, University of Maryland, North Carolina State University, Florida State University and University of North Carolina).
Tayshaun Prince- (Coach Jamaal's)! Detroit Pistons; Tayshaun Prince is a wirey, smooth shooting guard with great touch. Coach Jamaal Al-Din of Jamaal Al-Din's Hoops 227 grew up as a Detroit Pistons fan, watching Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer, John Salley, Mark Aguire and Dennis Rodman. It will be basketball heaven to watch Tayshaun Prince teamed up with guards like Chris Paul (Wake Forest Deamon Deacons/ New Orleans Hornets) and Deron Williams (University of Illinois "Fighting" Illini/ Utah Jazz). Tayshaun Prince played NCAA basketball at the University of Kentucky ("Wildcats") for Coach Tubby Smith.
Dwight Howard- Orlando Magic; an extraordinary physical basketball talent who is quickly making his mark on the entire National Basketball Association (NBA). Dwight Howard (see 227's You Tube- Dwight Howard), is a physical inside player who rebounds and scores with the best basketball centers and forwards in the NBA. Look for Howard to control the paint like SHAQ (Phoenix Suns) and dominate Olympic play. Noted for his famous U Tube (YouTube, you tube, utube) "Superman" dunk, Dwight Howard came into the NBA right after high-school, like his NBA counter-part...Kobe Bryant (of the 81 point performance, which can be seen on YouTube)!
Dwayne Wade- Miami Heat; D-Wade of the marketing NBA creatives, is a slashy, creative, shooting guard witha championship ring to go with the exceptional performance he put on during the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. Dwayne Wade's game is versatile and should flourish during Olympic style basketball play. Dwayne Wade played collegiately at Marquette University (NCAA).
Kobe Bryant- Los Angeles Lakers; Kobe Bryant... well, Kobe Bryant, need I say more. An 81 point scoring outburst and a phenominal 2007-08 season with the Los Angeles Lakers which culminated in a Western Conference Championship. Kobe will be a special basketball treat for all Olympic basketball fans. Kobe entered the NBA right out of high-school, similiar to the legendary Moses Malone ("4, 4, 4") and Darryl Dawkins "Chocolate Thunder!"  Kobe is a product of Philly.
LeBron James- Cleveland Cavaliers; the most electrifying dunker of modern NBA basketball  and arguably all-time. LeBron's strong game of dunk-you-very-much and power has took the National Basketball Association by storm! LeBron is only a blink away from establishing himself as the epitome of NBA shooting guards with strength and power to go along with his basketball intelligence which is unmatched! LeBron James came into the NBA, right after high-school and was regarded highly as everyone's McDonald's Basketball All-American, from Ohio.
Carlos Boozer- Utah Jazz; the former Duke University Blue Devil is a fierce inside presence and has a soft touch, he'll be an asset teamming up with Deron Williams, as they're teammates with the Western Conference Utah Jazz in the NBA.

Some of the basketball members of the United States Men's Basketball (USA) Team have had experience with FIBA Basketball, and the World Championships. Stay tuned and watch the best of the best USA basketball talent during the Olympics in Beijing, China. Coach Jamaal Al-Din of Jamaal Al-Din's Hoops 227 says "Good Luck, red, white and blue!" Jamaal Al-Din is a former player of Olympic scoring record setter, Ed Palubinskas, who played at BYU-Idaho (formerly Ricks College) and LSU. Coach Palubinskas is a member of the Australia Basketball Hall of Fame. Jamaal Al-Din's Hoops 227- the everything basketball website!

Played for the great, legendary Coach Ed Palubinskas of Olympic fame and college history. Ed Palubinskas set Olympic scoring records while playing for the Australian Olympic Basketball National Team and is well kwown for shooting accuracy so much that he tutored the great NBA Legend Shaquille O'Neal while with the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers and currently the NBA World Champion Miami Heat! Ed Palubinskas was great to play for, he made me work really hard and taught me to shoot to convert and with accuracy!

Ed Palubinskas is developer of "The Smartball" advertised on the NFL Network and ESPN. http://www.hoops227.atomicshops.com

Eulogy of Basketball: The Rise of the Superstar, Death of a Sport

"Who is better, Kobe, Lebron, or Wade? Shaq or Duncan?"
"How do I become a baller like Iverson or Kidd?"
If you take a look at most of the basketball related forums, chats, and blogs upon the web, you will find these types of questions as well as many like them. People wanting to debate the best, or wanting to be a star like these. What about asking ones self, "What do I need to do to be the best I can be?" Is it really that great of a thing to be like those above? I'm not so sure...

Without intending to take anything away from the talents and abilities of the aforementioned athletes, I have a question. "What have any of them done to make the game of basketball any better? What have they pioneered?" And more importantly, "What has our sport become?"

Having a love for basketball, and growing up as a kid in the age of, and admiring such greats as Bird, Magic, and Michael, one would think I would have no issue with the state of modern day basketball as it stands. But as a basketball purest I have to admit that I find within myself a bitterness when I look at the arrogance and selfishness of todays players. When I see the total and complete lack of role models and leadership, and the overall apathy for what was once, in my mind anyway, the greatest of all team sports, it saddens me.

At one time basketball was a sport where fundamentals, smarts, and dedication, in most cases dictated champions. Real champions, and real leaders! There was a time when the foundational rules which were built upon Dr. Naismith's game were respected. Many times in today's game, those rules no longer apply. A walk or travel is seldom called or often completely ignored. What would have been constituted as a carry is now considered a spectacular move. And as a result, our beloved game of basketball has been hijacked by thugs whose only motivation is money, stardom, and a love of self. Bill Laimbeer would be considered a prince compared to many of those we admire today.

This mentality has not only affected the professional ranks, but has also began to take root in our colleges, and has already polluted many involved in high school athletics.

Anyone who has ever followed the game of basketball knows well, and can readily admit that the physical abilities of todays athletes trumps those of players in the past. But the game of the past had something that our modern version has lost somewhere along the way, and that may never be regained.

There was a time when players who walked out onto the hardwood to compete did so as warriors, as a "band of brothers" of sorts. Although the team might have had what would be considered a superstar, each player upon the team, including that superstar, knew that they had a role to play, a job to do, and an accountability to their team and their fans.

There were also leaders then. These were men who were considered to be the superstars of their day. But the difference between those of the past and those of today was the way in which they saw the game. Think of Jerry West. Or Bill Russell. Or as I said before, Magic, Bird, or M.J.. Yes, they were superstars. Yes, they took many shots. Yes, they carried with them self-confidence, and pride in what they did. But unlike todays superstars they were not just mega athletes...they were leaders. And unlike todays superstars, they did not believe themselves to be greater than the game or the team in which they were a part of. But instead these men made all of the players on the team around them better. Ask the ones who played with them. There are several others we could mention here, but these are merely the ones who come to mind at the moment.

None of these past greats, before the game became a stain, won their championships based solely on their talent alone. Nor did Kobe this past season. They won because not only were they great, but they brought out the greatness in all the players around them. Even the ones they played against! Their will to win was not dictated by whether or not they
liked their coach, or whether there was a nice, fat bonus waiting at the end. It was decided because they loved the game, and because they saw themselves as a part of something bigger. At one time there was a pride in being part of the history of the "greatest game ever played."

Our sport has lost its way. It has lost the integrity, honour, heart, and spirit which made it great. And unless that which was lost is found again, the true game of basketball is done. Just as Lazarus was called forth from the tomb after dying, unless we have a revival of the essence of what basketball really is, it will not just be the laughing stock that it is today...It will be dead.

Maybe, in a way, that wouldn't be such a bad thing. At least without the money, the crying, and the spoiled mega athletes we could have players and coaches who did it for the love of the game again. We might even have integrity and real glory back in our sport. Maybe we could get back to having a game that was worth watching and playing again.

Simply Youth Basketball was started by Coach Tim Wood out of Andrews, N.C. May, 2010. This  website was the culmination of 12 years of coaching experience at all different levels of  youth baketball. Coach Tims sincere hope was to take the tricks, drills (many of his own design), and tips he has learned and put them into a form where any one who is invovled in the sport would be able to get the information they need to help them be a better and more effective coach. This website is purely a content website with nothing required to benefit from it. Every drill, play, and tip is 100% completely free to see. We are only one of a handfull of sites who can make this claim. We do have sponsers and ads, but there is nothing a person needs to buy or join to get all the infromation we offer. This is a fact, and we are proud of it! Most coaching websites use tease tactics to get you there so they can sell you a video, drill, or playbook. We do not! This is why we believe that Simply Youth Basketball is without a doubt the single best youth basketball website on the web. Period! So many youth websites you go to give you drills and plays that your novice 8 year old is simply not able to do. Most of the drills you see in these videos or with these drills are done with very experienced players. Our website focuses mainly on your everyday recreational basketball team where we all have normal kids, and our drills are relevant to that point. Our goal is to make coaching youth basketball  a successful journey, helping the coach make the most of his/her time, while getting the most from his/her team...the simple way!

Selecting the right soccer ball boils down to choosing the size and construction of the ball based on the playerâ??s age and league requirements. The younger the player, the smaller the ball in most cases. Cost is also a big factor in selecting the correct soccer ball. Synthetic-leather balls are the most expensive and basic rubber-type soccer balls cost the least. Leather is no longer the favorite choice of soccer ball coverings because leather absorbs more moisture than synthetic soccer balls. A wet leather ball gets heavier over time and becomes much slower in play.

There are three basic categories of soccer balls. Match soccer balls used in professional international matches meet all Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) requirements and are imprinted with the organizationâ??s logo on the ball. They are also the most expensive type of soccer ball. In the middle range are the competition balls used in college and high school competition. Recreational and training balls fill are the least expensive.

Most soccer balls are made of blends of polyurethane (PU), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and common rubber or nylon. The best and most expensive PU balls feel like leather and are very firm, durable and water-resistant. The PVC balls are also very durable but are not as soft and responsive as the PU-blend balls. Common rubber and nylon balls can present a real value because they cost the least and last the longest. Although the rubber and nylon soccer balls lack the feel of match balls, they are fine for practice and training.

Soccer balls are all clearly marked in one of three sizes with the smaller the size number, the smaller the ball. Most all soccer balls come marked in sizes 3, 4 or 5. Size 3 soccer balls are used for beginners under 8 years old are 23-inches in circumference and weigh 12-ounces. Size 4 balls are designed for players between the ages of 8 and 12 and weigh about the same as the smaller balls at 12-ounces but are larger in circumference at just over 25-inches. Size 5 soccer balls are designed for use by all players 13 and older and are built to the international standard size for all sanctioned competition. The size 5 balls weigh about 15-ounces and have a circumference of 28-inches.

Additional factors to consider in soccer ball construction are the lining and inner bladder. The lining underneath the outer covering controls the shape and feel of the ball. The bladder contains the air inside the ball and also contributes to shape and responsiveness in play. Match soccer balls usually have four layers of a combined cotton/polyester-blend lining. Mid-range balls have two layers of cotton and two layers of polyester lining, and the least expensive balls have only two layers of polyester lining.

Soccer ball bladders come in both latex and butyl. The latex bladders are considered the best type of ball construction, but they donâ??t hold air as long as butyl bladders and need attention to proper inflation. Butyl or butyl-blend bladders hold their air better but are harder less responsive in play. The most common bladder found in mid-priced balls will usually be a blend of 80% butyl with 20% rubber.

The number of panels on a soccer ball can influence flight characteristics and how much control the player will have in play. A 32-panel ball is the type used in international soccer competition. Major League Soccer in the United States uses an 18-panel ball, and most indoor soccer leagues use 6-panel balls. The panels on high-end soccer balls are hand-stitched with synthetic thread. Mid-priced soccer balls have the same high-quality thread but are machine stitched to reduce cost. Low-cost practice and training balls will usually have panels that are glued together.

Adidas, Nike, Voit, Puma, Brine and Diadora all make good all-around quality balls that are relatively affordable, ranging from $20 to $80. Good practice balls can be purchased for as little as $15. For most young players today, an inexpensive training ball is usually all they will need to get into soccer and start having fun.

When Auburn hired Iowa State coach Gene Chizik last summer, Tiger fans were apoplectic. Charles Barkley said it was racist. Alabama fans laughed. Alabama fans might still be laughing, but after Chizik's first season we saw Auburn tack on three extra wins despite a major drop off in defense (from 29th to 68th in total yardage) and the continued presence of noodle-armed statue Chris Todd at the offense's helm.

Auburn managed this trick by seeing their offense improve from 104th to 16th, which was almost entirely the doing of Gus Malzahn, the high school coach turned offensive coordinator at the heart of Arkansas's telenovela-style meltdown during Houston Nutt's final year as head coach. If  you follow college football at all, you know that Malzahn's offense is weird and fast, but here's ten minutes explaining some of the many ways in which it is weird and fast:

The video doesn't explicitly mention this, but since I just edited an article about the history of the state of the art in football offenses and I've got this stuff on the brain: Malzahn's offense is a modern-day version of the single wing. This is not exactly a new assertion. When the New York Times has mentioned the same thing you have, you are not breaking ground. But you can say the Malzahn offense is the single wing 2.0 and people will nod without actually understanding it.

The above video provides an excellent introduction for anyone wondering just what the heck people are talking about when they say this. The single wing…

  • incorporates many possible different ball carriers that head in different directions.
  • uses misdirection as the primary way to acquire big plays. It's not "keeping the defense honest" so you can run your bread and butter without the opponent cheating, it's an attempt make the defense confused on every play.
  • often features a primary ball handler who spins wildly to set up playfakes heading in opposite directions.
  • depends on sowing confusion and can be vulnerable to teams that are well-drilled at stopping it.

Auburn's offense was alternately explosive— putting up 49, 41, 33, and 38 against various BCS opponents and putting up 21 points against Alabama's outstanding defense—and disappointing—clunking out just 10 against LSU and, more alarmingly, 14 and 23 against Kentucky and Arkansas, respectively, in ugly losses against a couple of the worst defensive teams in the country.

It'll be fascinating to watch the SEC adapt to the offense, and whether that will be offset by the Tigers's massive athletic upgrade at quarterback, where former five-star recruit and Tebow heir-apparent Cam Newton replaces the game but limited Todd. What will Malzahn be able to do when his quarterback is a threat to take off? You'll have to ask 1930s-era Heisman winners.
