Some Facts about Football Video Highlights

Football, or soccer for any Americans out there, has been around for well over two thousand years in some form or other. Modern football as we know it, however, is often accredited to the British, who also hold claim to the oldest football league. Rather straight to the point, it is known as The Football League, and was founded in 1888. The Football League served as the top level league in England until 1992, at which time the top 22 teams in the league split away and formed the well known Premier League. There are now several other leagues, including the Italian Serie A and the German Bundesliga, and football has grown to become one of the most popular sports in the world – with some of the most dedicated fans.

Football isn't just about the match and who wins it, though. Granted, our team winning is the most important aspect to any football fan, but another important factor is how the match is won. Who scores, when they do so, the tactics used that lead up to the goal and finally seeing the ball hit the back of the net like meteor. There's nothing quite like seeing your team outwit their opponents and score an unexpected or technically difficult goal, and any decent TV editor will have the wits to show these football highlights several times before moving on.

Those of you who were around before the days of the Internet will probably have in your possession several football videos (VHS tapes) filled with the best parts of a season or cup, as that used to be the only way to watch the football highlights again at your own leisure. Luckily the internet has now made it possible to watch all the latest football highlights, as well as old football videos, whenever you so desire.

This also opens up the possibility to watch highlights from leagues that you may not otherwise watch, whether it is because you are not a fan of any particular team in that league or because you simply can't spare the time to watch all of them. The Internet is fantastic in that you can find all the best bits of every single match played, whether it be in the English Premier League or Spanish la Liga or any other league,  you will be able to find both old and new football videos of all the highlights whenever you so wish.

Initially, most football websites would be dedicated to a specific team or league and would only provide videos and highlights from their particular football interest. For anyone who enjoys football not only for the sake of supporting a team, but for the sheer beauty of the game, that would mean that you had to browse several different sites to get all of your updates. Luckily that is not the case anymore, thanks to dedicated football websites such as FootballReaction.com where you can watch all the latest football highlights and football video clips whenever you want, without spending a single dime.

Who knew there was a code of ethics in cycling? After passing race-leader Andy Schleck during Monday's Stage 15 of the Tour de France to become the overall leader, defending champion Alberto Contador took to YouTube to apologize for his action:

"Hello everyone. Today I made the podium and I am happy about that. But there's a problem with the circumstances. Just when I attacked, Andy had a mechanical problem, on the last climb. The race was on, and maybe I made a mistake. I'm sorry."

Contador is specifically apologizing for taking advantage of Schleck's mechanical problem by blowing past him while his bike wasn't working properly. Per The Telegraph:

Schleck started the day 31 seconds ahead of Contador and needing to extend that lead ahead of Saturday’s time-trial. After biding his time on another sweltering day … he attacked with a savage burst 4km short of the summit of the mighty Port de Balès 24km from the finish.

In no time Schleck had put 45 yards on Contador and was stretching that lead when his chain slipped and tangled and he came to grinding halt.
Contador, chasing hard by now, had to swerve as he passed the stationary Schleck on the inside and narrowly avoided colliding with a parked car as he attacked the yellow jersey.

Afterwards, however, he insisted he did not realise Schleck had stopped and encountered a problem. Replays clearly show Contador constantly looking back over his shoulder to check the progress of his rival as he accelerated hard to ram home his advantage.

Per the report, Schleck and Contador are friends, but the defending champ not only left his challenger in the proverbial dust, but also in a fit of rage. Schleck told reporters, "[m]y stomach is full of anger. The race is not finished and I will take my revenge. I can end it like a champion. I would never have raced like that and taken advantage of that situation. For sure these guys don’t get the fair-play prize today.”

Excuse me if I take an American point of view in this situation. First, cycling has more reports of cheating – yes it's mostly doping – than any sport in the world, so it's somewhat hilarious to the outsider to read about a moral and ethical code within a race. Second, it's a bike race! Men…riding bikes. There are only two things in that equation. The men, and the bikes. If something happens to the man – a knee injury or a back problem – does the race stop so he can grab a massage and an ice pack? Why, then, if something happens to the bike, should the other competitors hold up the rest of the race until one rider can fix his problem?

If a NASCAR driver got a flat tire or had a belt snap, would the rest of the drivers wait for him to fix it in the pits before getting back to full speed? If a marathon runners shoe falls off, does everyone wait until he can secure a proper double knot?

You can make the case that it's understandable for other riders to slow down after a competitor crashes – if for nothing else, like car racing, to not add to the carnage – and there's probably some karmic value to making sure you don’t benefit from another racer's injury. But bike malfunction?

Contador shouldn’t be apologizing to Schleck, he should be telling him to get a better bike. Alas, this is what happens in the Tour de France. With a race that's completed in stages, there is ample time for a racer to let the press, and the sentiment of the fans, get into his head. Contador wants to win, but he clearly doesn't want to be the villain in the process.

If you want to understand the history of soccer, we must admit that for some reason, humans have a natural need to revive things. Whether it 's release frustration, or simply for fun, we do not even notice.

How many times have you not walked on the street as a child (not only), just kicking that pebble or cones on the ground in front of you out of boredom. It 's natural wonders upon the basis of the history of soccer.

-- When soccer was invented?

When we talk about the history of soccer many people regard England as the place that soccer was born and although it may be a true statement in a particular context, the truth is that the English were the first to organize around soccer 1863, but they did not invent it by saying. Thus, if 1863 is the year of the sport called , then what year was invented soccer and where?

Since soccer or soccer-likesports path can be traced back to ancient times, it 's difficult to pin-point a specific year, but historians of the phenomenon in general, chop it into 3 periods of time .

-- History of soccer during antiquity

They might not have had our basic modern, ancient people, but make sure you know that their pleasure. And, you guessed it, kicking a ball around (of course, bullets were extremely primitive compared to what is used today) was considered a fun activity in many areas worldwide, most of them at the same time, without interaction from one another.

In the history of soccer the first written statement regarding the start of soccer comes from a Chinese military manual around 300 BC, which describes a practice known as cuju that involved kicking a leather ball through a hole in a silk fabric stretched between two poles. On the other side of the globe, the Americas, the Aztecs played a sport similar, although some compare it to more basketball soccer.

The goal is to hit the ball through a small circle of stones which was prominently on the scene 's walls, where the relationship with the basketball.

Now I n 't know you better, but it seems to me much more difficult to place a small leather ball exactly in the middle of a circle of stones that 's well above your head with your foot, to find a modern high-tech ball in a courtyard goal 8.

-- History of soccer in Middle Age

In general, we think of medieval times, as a moment when war was seen as a necessity and a Working rather than a calamity. Despite being a very serious, dark period of time, a certain way medieval people have managed to take some time for some sports, especially soccer.

The forms of soccer played during this period are obviously incomparable to our current definition of sport, where they are generally classified as mob soccer .

While their fathers have fallen in war, children are often adjusted to seize a leather ball, click on the nearby field and start a war on the ground. The absence of rules often lead to fights and serious injuries and sport was considered dangerous in many places.

A clear example of what can be found in the British Museum in London, where an engraving shows a group of men who are fighting to win a leather ball with a second image shows a man with a broken arm. You do the math.

-- Modern day soccer

As mentioned above, although we 't know when soccer was invented, we know when it was organized as a sport under a clear set of rules. Being a popular practice in England, soccer was played chaotic and often it would lead to the same or outside the arrivals battles similar to those that occur during soccer matches medieval. On each match, both teams would agree on a particular set of rules, but with the absence of an arbitrator arguments often spark.

To keep things in order, some English clubs met in London on October 26, 1863 to create a well-defined and universal rules for the game.

The soccer Association was born, and while their set of rules do not apply to all clubs immediately, in a few decades, soccer clubs has increased from amateurism to professionalism, their laws and driving restrictions has become the standard for everyone.

As you can see, there 's really not right how to respond to the When was invented soccer? Question and you 'll make your fair share of arguments to hand whatever period you think was the spark that caused the wildfire that soccer is today.

And you 'll probably agree with me on this point: it 's not really important to know when soccer was invented, but rather recognize that we are fortunate to be able to take advantage of this wonderful sport at its best, as we can in modern times.

While we wait for the NCAA to make a decision about how the new opening round of the NCAA Tournament will look during meetings in June, we're getting more coaches weighing in on potential scenarios. To my surprise, FanHouse was able to find a handful of high-major coaches who actually favor the idea of populating the four opening round games with at-large teams rather than low-major conference winners.

"The [at-large] bubble teams playing would be a big bang right out of the gate on Tuesday," Notre Dame coach Mike Brey (pictured) said. "That would be an interesting idea to wake everyone up right away and play those games on Tuesday and go 'here we go.'"

[...]

"I think it will make for some great matchups," [DePaul coach Oliver] Purnell said. "You're always talking about bubble teams leading up to the tournament, so you're bringing that element into the tournament instead of leaving it out. It creates even more excitement."

[...]

[Michigan State coach Tom] Izzo, who has been to six Final Fours in the past 12 seasons, said he thinks the NCAA will decide to go with the option with the final eight at-large teams meeting in the play-in games.

That's three coaches -- Brey, Purnell and Izzo -- all either endorsing or predicting we'll see at-larges playing in opening round games. In addition, Butler's Brad Stevens tells FanHouse he believes teams already playing a game would have an advantage over their opponent, which I'm not entirely sure is true because they haven't even hashed out where the games would be played. I'm not sure, if a team had to play in Dayton and then travel to a second city, there would be any advantage. If anything, it'd be at the detriment of the lower seed.

All of that aside, why would any high-major coach volunteer this opinion? Izzo, Brey or Stevens could easily find themselves as one of the last eight in during any given season. In a "better you than me" type of scenario, would all of these coaches rather have some low-major playing an opening round game rather than facing that fate themselves?

I already went through the impracticality of this model back in April, but maybe this kind of support from coaches makes it less of a slam dunk that many anticipated.

Perhaps this is something Zach Galifianakis should have done before he took a razor to his signature beard on Saturday during his appearance on SNL. That beard was central to his identity and he wiped most of it out like it was nothing.

Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis understands the value of facial hair. He's allowing fans to vote on one of four facial hair designs he could sport on Opening Day against the Yankees. There's his usual goatee, the Magnum P.I. mustache, the clean shaven look that is bizarre and bound to lose and the Fu Manchu (which would copy the Youk Manchu he grew last year for his official photo). A little limiting, if you ask me. Huge mutton chops and a soul patch deserve a right to compete.

Of course, frivolity can't exist for frivolity's sake, so there is a charity element to all this. In order to vote, a $1 donation has to be made to Youk's charity, Hits for Kids, which describes itself as "dedicated to rallying local and corporate support for charities and organizations focused on the health and wellbeing of children". Essentially, it's a charity for charities. Good to know. Either way, you're doing somebody some good and you potentially get to make a ballplayer look ridiculous.

The first and the earliest written obviousness of the baseball in America are a written payment in 1791 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The document, discovered by Society for Spine of John of member of research of baseball in 2004, strong obviousness of offers that the baseball is a single American play, and it expresses doubts on held length belief that the baseball was derived from the baseball, a British play. It also to increase the question of origins of cricket, as one largely thought that the baseball followed the cricket, which was developed starting from a known folk play under the name of swell of saddles (1085 A.D).

As of 2000 B.C. the plays type of ball and stick were played. The hiŽroglyphes depict the ancient Egyptians inside playing a game similar to the baseball 1500 B.C., although there exists some principal differences between its description and modern play.

The payment 1791 of Massachusetts prohibited the play of the play to less than 80 yards of the house of meeting of city. The formal organization initially documented with the baseball of play in America was the jodhpurses of NY established above September 23, 1845. The first rules were written by Alexandre Cartwright, considered the father of the modern baseball. However, a long time before this the play of ball of time of a certain type was noted per many authors and inside many documents.

At May 8, 1844 schedule city in New York City prohibits the ball of it the play of left. It was said that abner Doubleday has invented play of baseball inside 1839. although a posterior investigation proved this to be a role of CartwrightøS of myth inside the baseball was also called into question. The majority of the experts and historians are appropriate now that it was simply the first to note the rules which had existed for completely a certain hour. Moreover, there is obviously strong that the changes of rule were one of the Cartwright reasons wrote them.

There much was written about the sport after the foundation Jodhpurses, such as articles relating to popularity and evolvement play rules of York of New in the principal current of the baseball. The original The jodhpurses reign the addressed stinking lines and supprimentes the plug outside, which implied striking the runner with the ball to gain an exit. They also traced the label-outside and the force-outside. Curiously, they it donÁøT provide a distance of pitching or a length of base line. The steps of Forty-two were the real distance written of at the house at the second base, and of initially with the third the Innings were also not mentioned. Instead of that, the first team with twenty and one were declared gaining it, given the two teams are allowed an equal number of with-beaters. Pitching the method was also described like underhand, perhaps similar to the ball of city, another play early with the English roots.

The rules can be initially written by Cartwright, but there is a length and implied history of the plays earlier with the similar rules. Much American and the English complaints of opposition to invent the baseball tried to discuss theirs positions by presenting the obviousness to support their complaints. In spite of all this, the origin of the modern baseball remains always a mystery.

After 1845, the history of the baseball in America starts to be rather clear. Rules were standardized in 1857. In 1858, the first league of baseball, the national Association of the low players of ball (NABBP), emerged. They were not professional players considered, because they did not receive any money for theirs participation. However, the plays were public and the admission was charged with be pilot plays. The first documented game of baseball of university was played in 1859 as Amherst A demolishes Williams 73-32 in 26 turns of beater in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

In 1860, play of York of New generally indicated under the name of national of the pastime in much of written work. The baseball accelerated in popularity and draw aside slowly in all the country during the civil war. More than 100 clubs took place in existence when the finished war and 1869, the world first the professional team of baseball was established. Bottoms Of Red Of Cincinnati their first unconquered season finished. The NABBP crossed in two groups, for amateurs and that for the professionals. The leg of amateur of dissolved association after only a few years.

The national league, which always exists, was established in 1875 afterwards NABBP proved ineffective on several levels. Power shifted with the club the organizations and the baseball entered an age completely of conflict, pointed out most of the time for the dreaded clause of reservation of player who oppressed players and was held they like slaves with their contracts.

Nonwhite blacks and the Hispanic ones or all the other players on several occasions were forced out of, omitted, or sent to the minor leagues. It was a ashamed practice that endøof the didnÁt until 1947. The Western league of the players of baseball, a minor the league of the area of states of Great Lakes became the American league in 1899. A new era in the baseball started in 1901. It was known as era of ball of Dead , because of a reduction marked in offence produced in the two leagues. This era continued until the appearance of the Ruth baby in 1919.
